Hercule et Omphale : comme l' explique la legende , Omphale mis Hercule en esclavage, elle porte sa fourure et sa massue et lui son rouet, .....bref : "je suis votre esclave".


When showing a mythological scene in the form of a miniature, or for a large painting to be painted with this type of subject; (as with Omphale here, who is clearly looking at us) always contains a hidden message.

According to the legend, Omphale made Hercules her slave (this is shown in the paintings, as she wears his fur and he wears her ribbon) and indicates "You have made me your slave".
